My passion is helping people who are yearning for a more peaceful, joyous, loving and balanced life, but don’t know how to get it. They may be plagued with persistent worries, stress, sadness, or anger or just feel numb and uninspired. They may be having troubles with their relationships, find themselves stuck in old patterns, or maybe want to work through a troubled relationship or event in their past that they just can’t get over. Although I employ a variety of evidence-based techniques in my approach, I focus first on really “getting” you, and then applying my knowledge and experience to help you get where you want to be.
Each journey is unique, so your path will be customized to your particular needs and personality. I have advanced training and experience in therapies that have been proven effective, such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Brainspotting, somatic work, mindfulness, trauma-informed yoga, and various other experiential- and cognitive-based therapies. These therapies feature heavily in my sessions.
I have been honored to work with some amazing clients who have turned their lives around, worked through intense childhood traumas, resolved struggles with their religion, sexuality and gender identification, dissolved their anxieties, rediscovered their excitement for life and mended their relationships. I also have expertise with LDS, ex-LDS, and LGBTQ individuals and their families dealing with issues unique to these populations.
Although I have counseled clients for several years, I was not always a counselor. My curiosity initially led me to a career in science, earning Bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Philosophy at the College of William and Mary, working as a researcher for NASA, and starting a Ph.D. program in Atmospheric Science at Georgia Institute of Technology. I then earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Southern California, allowing me to merge my loves of science and advocacy into a career as a patent attorney.
After practicing as an attorney for almost a decade, I noticed that there were still parts of me that were not expressed in my career, and I found myself drawn to helping loved ones with problems or dilemmas that came up in their lives. I entered a Master’s degree program in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University and began counseling clients in 2009, and I also provide expert witness work on trauma for immigration proceedings. I have never felt more balanced.
If you are feeling stuck and would like to work together to help you find a way out, I would be honored to work with you.
